In preparation for our new school year, our faculty and staff gathered together for the past two days. In addition to discussions around our summer reading (which you’ll hear more about in the Fall), we spent time reflecting on our school goals and vision, and collectively discussing our vision for this school year for our students. After being away from the school all summer, it is a great way to refresh our thinking about our classrooms, our students and our school overall. This school year brings many changes, including new students, new technology, new teachers and lots of new ideas, but this year also includes familiarity in our staff, our families, and the many, varied activities that go on in the classrooms and around the school every day.
As part of our workshop, I shared the following video, http://cainesarcade.com with our staff.
While this is not one of our students, it is a great story about a young boy who creates an arcade from boxes, illustrating so wonderfully what those of us who work in a school get to see every day – a child’s natural creativity. As we launch into another school year with our own students here at FSMH, we look forward to encouraging that wonder in students, supporting their instincts to create and explore and stimulate their natural curiosity. Who knows where that will take them this year?
A few recent staffing changes to note: T. Kathy Saia will be teaching 2nd grade this year as T. Colleen decided not to return to Friends School. We are thrilled to have Kathy so capably stepping into this role. She was previously one of our 2nd grade teachers. We will have technology support available while we determine the full range of our technology/media center needs.
We look forward to seeing our students tomorrow!
